A 19 year-old girl from Texas fatally shot her date after trying to steal his guns on New Year’s Eve. The suspect now faces murder charges and could spend many years in jail.
Yvonne Raquel Ramirez told detectives that she shot and killed her date Joshua McKinney, an aspiring marine, at around 4:30 in the morning. Investigators also found that the girl planned to rob her date the moment she started spending time with him.
The suspect said she demanded $2,000 in ransom from the victim before killing him. The standoff turned violent fast, one of the eye witnesses told the police. The man was able to grab the teen in a neck hold and point a firearm at her head. One of the witnesses called the police but it was too late. She heard gunshots the moment she was making the call.
The man was found unresponsive in the street, while the shooter was founded wounded at her shoulder. In her initial testimony, she said that the man was killed when the firearm dropped and shot. She claimed that she acted in self-defense.
Winesses See Texas Teen Taking Victim’s Wallet
Witnesses, however, have another version of the story. They saw the girl trying to move the victim’s body before she took his wallet. A judge set a $50,000 bail, and she is now held in a local jail. Her first court appearance was slated for Wednesday.
According to a local news station, the ten said she and her date were smoking pot when he accused her of taking his gun. Since she refused to admit to the crime, the confrontation became violent.
Ramirez grabbed one of the man’s guns and shot his dead. She later texted one of her friends telling them how she stole the firearms. Deputies are now probing to see whether there is somebody else involved in the murder.
